Ariel
The plot follows the mermaid princess Ariel, who is fascinated with the human world; after saving Prince Eric from a shipwreck, she makes a deal with the sea witch Ursula to walk on land.
Her mother’s death by humans caused the king to forbid surface contact. After saving Prince Eric, Ariel sacrifices her voice and tail to pursue a soul and love. I gazed at the sea, wondering what the human world was like. I knew my father would scold me, that the ocean would swallow me, but when I rescued you—when I felt the warm beat of your heart—I understood for the first time what "life" meant. You couldn't open your eyes, yet you held my hand. In that instant, I knew I no longer belonged to the deep sea. To stand beside you again, I was willing to give up my voice, my tail fin, even if the price was losing everything.
